A visit to Udaipur is incomplete without a boat cruise in Lake Pichola “the historic 14th century lake made by a local banjara (gypsy) that was extended in the 16th century by Rana Udai Singh II to establish Udaipur, the city of lakes. The picturesque boat ride on Lake Pichola not only provides the best scenic view of the lake and the mountains in the city,
but also presents some of the most important historical monuments dotted along the lakeside or submerged within the lake. Beginning with the monumental lakeside facade of the City Palace Complex, the boat ride moves to the picturesque ghats with their distinctive steps, still used by the locals. Whilst staying at the comfort of this delightful place, which is situated on a rubber estate between Cochin and Thekkady, your day with an elephant will begin after breakfast. You will be taken to meet Lakshmi and her mahout who both live close by (1 ½ miles away). Initially you will be provided with a bunch of bananas to feed to her as this works as a good introduction / ice-breaking method between you and Lakshmi. She is a wonderful, tamed elephant who used to work for a circus before being rescued by her present mahout, and she now she earns her living undertaking farm and forest activities.
After you have become acquainted with Lakshmi, you may go out and spend a few hours riding around the beautiful surroundings of Kanam Estate and the local countryside. After a while on elephant back (which may be for as long or as short as you wish), you will be taken to one of the nearby farms, which are teeming with rubber, banana, papaya, pepper, coffee, pineapple and cocoa plantations. You may tour these plantations either on foot or riding Lakshmi.
